As the title shows, yes we were featured in Utusan, Yo! section, Saturday, 18th July 2009. I totally forgotten about it until a dear friend (thanx kak Arin!) called me and received a message from mum said "your article ada dalam Utusan Msia..." :).

Thanx to En. Ilah, for interviewing me via phone the other day, and also to his friend - Mr. Photographer. The shots were taken at the A:Fair Bazaar sometime ago. Too bad it didn't feature my blog address or contact number. Otherwise, my sales might increase...isn't it???

Alhamdulillah, may Allah SWT bless Mama and Babah and all of us.

Today is my parents' 30th Anniversary. Yesterday was the celebration. We managed to gather all our family members and my parents' close friends at Seri Angkasa Restaurant, KL Tower for a hefty-hearty-delicious luncheon and get-together session. About 60 people were there.

Surrounded by our loved ones, seeing each other once a while with so much to talk about, hilarious laughter, kids screaming chasing each other from one end to another was the perfect sounds, in such a cosy ambience. Right up 250m above sea level, witnessed all.

Eagerly waiting for our dedicated photography team - FotoPhactory to hand us the captured moments. Mean while....be patient.

Cap Square Review

KL Sunday Market @ Cap Square was alright. Being the newest and the latest Sunday Market in town, people still having trouble to locate the place, but it is actually a good location where it is situated next to the ever famous Jalan TAR (Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman) and next to Kompleks Wilayah. I guess, more promotions should be done by the management in order to attract people and move the crowd there and as well as helping the vendors to improve their sales.

Yesterday was a wet Sunday, not much people. More vendors rather than buyers. That's not a good sign for us the sellers, but I actually enjoyed the atmosphere there and the ambience. Cosy. I didn't get to snap any pictures, I left the camera at home.

New fabrics updated! No 30 and 33 are from IKEA, Thick upholstery type of fabric. No 31 also from IKEA, a bit thinner than no 30 and 33 but suitable for any bags or upholstery projects. No 32 - Army Camouflage is quite special because I bought it during my trip at Bandung. Thick and sturdy for any sewing projects. Hurry, quantity (yardage) is limited!!

As promised, these are parts of my fabric collections for making the fabulous bags. Fabrics are the most vital part in my business. Am very selective in choosing ones and most of the textiles were purchased internationally and some are from local stores. I have a great crush on unique prints and patterns and whenever I do my fabrics hunting I will always look for quality without compromising the funky looks. Salam, and good day peeps! I'm on medical leave, just had a mini lap and cystectomy operation on the 11th Feb. Production will discontinue for a while until I'm a bit stronger to hit the machine. A friend of mine, Pyan once approached me to design a funky and stylish and functional camera strap. He's been eyeing for it for quite sometime and only now I have the space and time to do it. I realised the blossoming of photographers in Malaysia are very very rapid and incredibly intense. Most of them are very good espcially to all my dear good friends who are shooters themselves - (Weda, Hafiz, Jipie, Pyan and to name a few). So, here what I can offer to all the funky and creative photographers out there, that you can come out and shoot the masterpiece with a nice-kool-attractive-cosy strap on your neck.

Above pictures are the camera strap in cotton print and denim. It is a slot-in type. Size may vary for different type of cameras. It can be padded for extra comfort.

Meet Omera. She's big-chubby-vibrant-happy and funky! This is my latest creation and a new member of funkoolicious collections. I seriously in need of a huge bag where I can throw every 'rubbish' inside. To many women, huge bags are necessary. My bags are never light, always heavy and heavier. God knows what's inside... am also being very generous to provide two compartments / pockets inside the bag, one is for mobile phones (nowadays, people have more than one) and another is with zipper for your important stuff such as keys, or notes. Nway, hope this latest design will catch your fancy. Omera is made of 100% crispy cotton prints and a piece of Sheridan remnant I bought long time ago in Melbourne. Strengthen with interfacing for sturdiness.

Place Mat is made of acrylic or perspex. Designed with gold vinyl sticker in leaves pattern. The surface is clear-flat for easy cleaning and dirt-resistant. Spills can be wiped off with a little bit soap water spray and a damp cloth.

Comes in set of six, measured 12" height x 16.5" width. It will definitely gives a classy and dramatic look on your dining table.

To the faithfull readers - thank you for keep on visiting this blog eventhough there was nothing new, praying it would be updated.

'just-click-this-page' surfer - welcome to my blog cum shoplog.

Last two years were quite hectic for me, juggling with new ventures and experiences, therefore I was like abandoning or to be more precise, ignoring the existance of this blog for a while. I couldn't commit myself to constantly updating this blog. Just when I had the time to update it, something else MAJOR took me away from my initial intention. Nways, good to be here again. One of my 2009/1430 resolutions are to commit to my blog and productions of Akareka Design.

This is a pelamin - a bridal suite - where the bride and groom will sit side by side after the solemnisation ceremony. This is common in Malay wedding and one of the important cultural feature / element in the wedding. I have got the chance to design one for our client, Pn. Hanim. The overall concept is natural,theme colour is purple + white. That is why I have chosen to decorate the whole look with fresh flowers like roses, lilies and to name a few. I also mix it with artificial garlands where she can reuse whenever necessary, crystal beads blind, and decorative glass candle holder. For the final touch, I laid as many jasmine petals as possible to brings out the fresh scent and aroma of the flowers.

Javareka Ad has officially been our first interior design-client for the year of 2007. Above pixs are the main office located on the first floor. The client is operating an advertising company and factory, so they want a white,open,light,colourful concept. What I did is all walls, tables & cabinets were in white. Bright colours are splashed from the chairs, doors and feature walls. The whole process from scratching the idea-space planning-execution, is so exciting and what makes me happy is that the client is SATISFIED and they enjoy working in the created environment!

i need some motivations. i'm being a huge procrastinator for the past few weeks. i did so much thinking for the company's current and future plans and production have been quite slow. so much to think and i was drown in the sea of goals, ideas, plans, visions.... sigh.

Whoa, it's been 3 months I didn't post anything on the blog. I'm preoccupied with studio stuff - designing, sewing, office management and some freelance jobs. But it wasn't an excuse! I hope it is still early to wish all the muslims in the world Happy Eid Fitr or Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Pixs shown were some of the latest pick-ups for my customers. More new things coming up and I promise to post it for viewing. Akareka Design is in the planning to do some makeover for the whole studio. We're gonna produce and stock up more ready-made bags (in standard design), accessories and more surprises for our beloved customers. Just need a lil bit of time to manage all of those items. Tell Me A Story About Handbags

I love sewing. Mom thought me to sew when I was in primary school and excited to watch her making our (my siblings and I) baju kurung. From there, I watched and learned how to use the ever-SINGER sewing machine and some of the traditional needle works/techniques. Mom even thought me to knit. I realized that I was the only daughter who inherits her sewing passion. Lucky me!

My passion in making handmade handbags started when I was studying abroad. Specifically, when I was in Melbourne. I went to some of the flea markets, arts & craft markets, concept stores (oh, they have a lot of this independent stores which I adore so much! I want one someday ;) ) I noticed taht they really appreciate handmade stuff, especially handbags. They were so beautiful and nicely handcrafted.I know that I have the talent and skill gifted so I made an effort, where almost everyday I would visit my fav shop along the Chapel St. - Handworks, Lin's Craft, & many more that I could not remember their names. I can get almost any handcraft supplies easily with so many varieties that I couldnt get in my hometown. There was a short course (making bags & purses) advertised at Uni. It was quite pricey but I really wanted to go. So, the key was - SAVE UP!!!

On my second year of studies, with enough money in hands, I have registered myself in the course. I met Nikki - the ever funky-cool tutor, Vanessa, Sasha, Gabrielle, Nina and a few others. During the course Nikki tought us the fundamental of handbags, what-why-who-when-how people use/make bags, the anatomy & construction of handbags, embellishment and many more. 7 weeks seemed so short to learn everything. Anyway, after I got my certificate I started to brush up my newly picked up skill. I made a few trial and error handbags, studying the technique and process of constructing the bags - most of the tiny nitty things, you've got to experience yourself. Fabrics hunting is totally my lifetime soul & subtle theraphy. I love hunting for vintage fabrics, laces, buttons, cotton prints, upholstery fabrics, and any kinds of handcraft supplies. Love it, love it, love it!

After a while, my dear friend, Laily asked me to make her a work bag. She wanted to put all her Uni stuff (books, files, wallet, keys, handphones, etc). So, began the brainstorming design session, fabrics selection, the mix & match...I love the whole process of designing and making handbags. Your days are filled with colours, imagination, skills sharpening. Need I say more? In short, Laily's bag has officially been my first public appearance and fortunately, it doesn't stop there.

Akareka Design is established in January 2006. It is a design based company which purely and humbly concentrating in designing (interior + furniture + handbags + homewares), sewing, mix-matching and all sorts of heARTful creative business. I am writing here as the owner & founder of the company. Having AKAREKA is like having a first born (though I do not own any child, yet) and learning to raise her the very best you could. I poured so much of my love, strength, energy, knowledge & effort that I could for the company because I know...someday she is going to hit the WORLD miraculously. Oh how I wish! (insya-allah).

I graduated from the National Institute of Design @ Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne in 2004. Upon graduating, I came back home...(I love Malaysia) and jobless for a while. Hmmm...to be exact about 2 months. After that, I got a job in an established interior design firm in PJ. It was a great opportunity and exposure for me when I was working there. Got to handle few jobs with the supervision of my senior designers. Learned quite a lot of things, tips, tactics, and the 'real' design industry there. My ex-colleagues were friendly, funny, crazy and great to be with. Miss them sometimes. But, I am not destined to be there long enough. Other greater opportunity came along that I could not....could not reject for as long as I live. Quitting my day job meaning no more fixed income and you just got married...money is the IN THING (if you know what I mean). I DONT CARE!

My husband and family are very supportive in my decision to quit my job and starting my own business. In fact, they are my $$$oul provider and my councellors (my dad & hubby are also businessmen) when I am still crawling up the stairs, establishing Akareka. I wouldn't be around if they are not around. I never regretted my decision and right this moment, I am sharpening my entrepreneur skill and all other survivor skills in sewing, administrating, webmastering, marketing, and anything that I could grab along the way. My working environment is surrounded by the people I love and doing things that I am passionate about. What else do you need, people?
